For such a decent price tag, these puppies really bring it. Introducing the Sony MDR-BX500. I have had so many brands of over-ear headphones now it’s hard to count. I ripped these out of the package, popped them on and gave them my 30-minute super bass test: Flying Lotus, Tipper, Plump Djs, Diplo and Timberland to Kings Of Leon, Tool, Ramstein and a touch of Saosin. Test passed. Brilliant bass. Perhaps even more satisfying is the fact that when you put them on, these babies feel like cream puffs on your lobes. So soft and cushy like a grandma boob hug. For me, the cushioning on headphones (not grandma boobs) means a massive deal as I’m often donning them 10 hours straight, so to have cushion is a terrific plus - well really, a must. Check em out now.

This is what I ended up with as a logo design for Sydney based DJ Adam Lance. We decided on a basic, easily decipherable logo for use on the base of posters etc wherein the real estate would be minimal, then a very abstract rendition for more creative personal promotions.

I was asked by L.A-based Cornerstone Records to design Gift Of Gab’s latest EP, Escape 2 Mars. The brief was to feature a Mayan Skull on the front and some sort of Mars landscape on the back. Despite what ended up happening to it all, I really do like this version and am glad to have experienced talking to the artist and getting a different kind of brief.

A friend of mine just sent me this fantastic link. I believe it should be shared. I used to play a number of instruments in a few large concert bands (yeah yeah, nerdy band camps and all), but I always remember looking at the conductor waving his baton and imagining how it must have felt to play puppeteer, fusing each section with perfect timing. Check out In B Flat to experience a little taste for yourself.

This is a logo design that I have been working on for Australian DJ ‘Bass Kleph’. It’s inspired by the folded paper font ‘origami’ but completely customized to ensure that each letter slots into the next perfectly. Formerly a breaks focused DJ, Bass Kleph has recently ventured into more electronic grounds in order to keep up with the current market. As a result, the idea behind this design was all about reflecting what is going on in the industry: vinyl and turntables are evolving into mp3s and mixing programs while organic and hand made designs are progressing to synthetic, computer based designs. The folded paper effect preserves the hand-made memory while the mechanical look brings it into the future. The customization of the clef symbol from an organic shape into a sharp angular shape supports this rationale. This particular design is not quite what he is after, so I am in the process of pitching new concepts.
