Gift Of Gab Album Design
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010I was asked by L.A-based Cornerstone Records to design Gift Of Gab’s latest EP, Escape 2 Mars. The brief was to feature a Mayan Skull on the front and some sort of Mars landscape on the back. Despite what ended up happening to it all, I really do like this version and am glad to have experienced talking to the artist and getting a different kind of brief.

Conduct your own symphony for 2 minutes
Sunday, August 9th, 2009A friend of mine just sent me this fantastic link. I believe it should be shared. I used to play a number of instruments in a few large concert bands (yeah yeah, nerdy band camps and all), but I always remember looking at the conductor waving his baton and imagining how it must have felt to play puppeteer, fusing each section with perfect timing. Check out In B Flat to experience a little taste for yourself.

Pump Up The Bass
Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

This is a logo design that I have been working on for Australian DJ ‘Bass Kleph’. It’s inspired by the folded paper font ‘origami’ but completely customized to ensure that each letter slots into the next perfectly. Formerly a breaks focused DJ, Bass Kleph has recently ventured into more electronic grounds in order to keep up with the current market. As a result, the idea behind this design was all about reflecting what is going on in the industry: vinyl and turntables are evolving into mp3s and mixing programs while organic and hand made designs are progressing to synthetic, computer based designs. The folded paper effect preserves the hand-made memory while the mechanical look brings it into the future. The customization of the clef symbol from an organic shape into a sharp angular shape supports this rationale. This particular design is not quite what he is after, so I am in the process of pitching new concepts.

Root For Rootbeer :: Part 2
Wednesday, February 11th, 2009Here is the EP artwork for hip-hop act Rootbeer that just went to press in America. These guys were just great to work with - full of inspiration and such easy-going attitudes. Can’t wait to hold this little puppy in my slightly badly circulated hands!
