So because I was seriously bored today and could not focus on one thing I had to do, I ended up finding this interesting example of a comparison between an old TV ad and a new one. Check them both out - it’s fascinating just how abstract things are getting.

I was asked by L.A-based Cornerstone Records to design Gift Of Gab’s latest EP, Escape 2 Mars. The brief was to feature a Mayan Skull on the front and some sort of Mars landscape on the back. Despite what ended up happening to it all, I really do like this version and am glad to have experienced talking to the artist and getting a different kind of brief.

So I’m like 10 years behind and only just finished Season 3 of this wacky series, first aired in 2005. Created and developed by Rob McElhenney (stars as Mack), Glenn Howerton (Dennis), and Charlie Day (Charlie), it has been described by most as the new age Seinfeld - although this gang’s exploits are far more raw, pink and hairy than Jerry’s ever could be. Yes, they are horrible, self-centered people that turn on each other every which way but you can’t help but laugh at them along the way. Great escapism, give it a gander.

It’s witty, fast paced ‘walk and talk’ dialogue keeps me on my toes at all times. Toilet break during an episode? Negative Sir.
I remain in awe of the thunderous power of each episode, whilst growing increasingly fond of each character involved and understanding more about the decisions they make. Never a dull moment and always an uncontrollable impulse to press play on the next episode so make sure you have your camp set up and food supplies at the ready. Only two shows have ever got me hooked this way - the other being Six Feet Under - so if you haven’t yet taken the time out to experience either of these, then I suggest you do

When I heard this TV gig ‘Glee’ was from the same creator as ‘Nip/Tuck’ I just had to check it out. Reminiscent of Scrubs, every few moments there are little snippets of creative soundtrack and awkward moments followed by lighting fast scene cuts and cam switches. It also has some of that brutal and conniving Gossip Girl drama going on, giving it a few bonus points for those who like their escapism nice and nasty. The nerd in me was immediately irked by the kerning in the title (seriously though, it’s amazing what gets by in such large projects), but quickly moving past that I did get pretty excited about the numerous renditions of musical classics punching through. Even though I was in a pool of melting cheese at times, I have to admit I did at times get a tingling of those old school ‘Sister Act’ goosebumps coming up. It’s good for a laugh now, but we will see how long it takes to become too full of glee.

A friend of mine just sent me this fantastic link. I believe it should be shared. I used to play a number of instruments in a few large concert bands (yeah yeah, nerdy band camps and all), but I always remember looking at the conductor waving his baton and imagining how it must have felt to play puppeteer, fusing each section with perfect timing. Check out In B Flat to experience a little taste for yourself.

DUUUDE! The best fill of gut spilling, flesh ripping, head kicking (just like a football actually) party tricks yet. Norwegian horror ‘Dead Snow’ (Dod Sno), directed by Tommy Wirkola, is one of the coolest zombie creations of 2009 to date. It’s actually got a better plot than most (well, at least it has one - and I still think ‘Dead Set’ is the winner of best plot by far) which is served up ice cold with a twist of Nazi. But really, who cares too much about deep storylines and developed characters for this kind of brew anyhoo? I personally wanted the fat guy to be the first to go because he was such a knob (although, he did don a nice braindead tee).
If you haven’t seen it yet, then do - it’s a feast. I was glued every moment. I particularly liked the effects of the white snow and white faces contrasting against all that bright red. Never imagined intestines to be that elastic either. Watch it in complete darkness if you dare.
