Gift Of Gab Album Design
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010I was asked by L.A-based Cornerstone Records to design Gift Of Gab’s latest EP, Escape 2 Mars. The brief was to feature a Mayan Skull on the front and some sort of Mars landscape on the back. Despite what ended up happening to it all, I really do like this version and am glad to have experienced talking to the artist and getting a different kind of brief.

Packaging Design :: KORA By Miranda Kerr
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010This the packaging I designed for a new skin care range represented by Australian Super Model, Miranda Kerr. Although the product is organic skin care and would lend itself to more natural muted tones, we ended up going with an aqua to reflect the purity of the ingredients. Overall the project took over a year to develop so it was a huge effort and commitment. Although I have not actually seen the product on stands yet there has been light promotion in magazines. Feedback so far has been that the product itself is not great as a skin care, but I’m sure Miranda’s face will sell enough to make her rich(er).
Logo Design Development
Saturday, November 28th, 2009Here is the first result of a logo design I’m trying to nut out at the moment. I did large amount of sketching using a got grid book and now I’m in the Illustrator stage. It’s a logo for an electro DJ so it can afford to be a little abstract, although right now it’s driving me nuts as I’m trying to retain the edge but also keep it readable. Now it’s time to take a break and come back with fresh eyes later.

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009How to be a Graphic Designer, Without Losing Your Soul
Thursday, August 27th, 2009I’m currently reading this book by Adrian Shaughnessy and it’s slowly but surely curing a mild case of quarter-life career crisis. After years of pitching for work, going to countless interviews (even just for practice), conducting interviews myself, managing staff and selling my work to the point of design prostitution, the chapter I have just read about ‘how to find a job’ has struck multiple chords. Only 50 odd pages in it has already explained and justified a few of my beliefs about how to be a successful freelancer, employee or employer while also getting into the guts of the dark side of being in the design industry. So far I rate it as incredibly helpful, insightful and reassuring for those who are unsure and starting out, feeling the drag or just need to read some sound advice and let out a few empathetic chuckles along the way. Worthy for anyone from graduate to studio director.
I can’t wait to read more. Read it yourself.
Dan Banks Band Artwork
Sunday, July 12th, 2009I was asked to create an album artwork for 5 piece blues and roots act Dan Banks Band. Instead of going down the ’sunshine, rainbows and trees’ route I opted for a more weathered, vintage effect. Seeing as though I was starting from scratch I created them a set of logos as well - a full typographic band name and an initials logo. The headstock used in the logo illustrations is the actual headstock of Dan Banks’ guitar. This is how it all turned out. Tune into their tunes here.
A New Kind Of Goodall
Saturday, July 11th, 2009Illustrator Jasper Goodall has pumped out this great new series of work titled ‘Poster Girl’. Fusing his distinctive illustrative style with shiny latex and photography, Goodall explores themes of fetish and fantasy which seem to be ever present in his portfolio. Interesting observations have been made about how over time the colour pink has become associated with sexyness (along with it’s sexual partner black) and how the shininess of polished latex becomes almost fluid-like in texture when stretched over a body. Furthermore, shininess itself seems to have become sexy, whether it’s on a human body (suggesting lubrication) or whether it’s a shiny new car, people often refer to shiny objects as being sexy. To read more of the rationale visit the original post here. These works can be seen at Goodall’s personal website and his earlier works at Big Active
