Super(anime)stars

June 29th, 2009

Check these Adidas Superstars I have started drawing on. I have only worked on two sides so far: One is the ‘Ninja Scroll’ side with Tessai and Jubei Kibagami, then the other is the ‘Fushigi Yuugi’ side with Tamahome… although that is still unfinished. More to come!

Initial Illusions

June 27th, 2009

Trying to come up with intertwined initials is hard…. while mixing a ‘Q’ and an ‘M’ together I got a cat and a bird. See them? Quite random and abstract I know…. but now it’s all I see and it’s driving me bonkers! It’s not what I want at all, but an interesting journey nonetheless.picture-3.png

Rootbeer EP in 3D

Finally! I get to see what this album artwork looks like in real life. Shame it had to be in a crystal case but still looks good.

Rumble your Jumbles

June 26th, 2009

 arnotts-and-jumble.jpg

I finally found a recipe for those mouthwatering pillows of ginger joy - also known as Honey Jumbles (Arnott’s, 1906). These will do just splendidly as a tasty morsel to accompany my morning cup o’ joe. Above left is a vintage ad for the Scotch Finger - another Arnott’s product. I just put it there because I think it’s great advertising - tag line: “sharing a good idea”. But fear not, jumbles in the jungle to the right, all pretty dressed in pink and white. Hit up this spot for more awesome cooking recipes and tips.

Go on, get your apron on.

25g butter
3 tablespoons honey
125g self raising flour
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup icing sugar
a little water
food colouring

  1. line a microwave safe baking tray or plate with baking paper.
  2. combine butter and honey in a heatproof bowl and cook on high power for 45 seconds.
  3. add flour, ginger and cinnamon and mix into a firm dough.
  4. roll out between 2 sheets of plastic wrap until dough is 1 cm thick.
  5. using a sharp knife cut into oval shapes from the dough until all the mixture is used.
  6. place 6 biscuits at a time around the outside of a baking tray and cook on high power for 1-2 minutes or until biscuits are set.
  7. stand for 5 minutes then cook the next batch.
  8. combine icing sugar with enough water to make a smooth icing. stir in a few drops of food colouring.

Nice Feat

Whilst looking around for inspiration for my next job, I came across Mexican Illustrator Sam Flores. This guy has some pretty cool characters going on. Huge hands and kicks on top - cool!

Only The Hard, Only The Strong

June 16th, 2009

No matter how much the critics complain about this movie being historically inaccurate, I remain in awe of it’s graphic thunder. Desaturated scenes with the high contrast of deep, mysterious shadows against luminescent highlights of muscles and eyeballs gleaming in the night are like a visual orgasm for any graphic novel enthusiast. Props of the biggest kind to the comic original Frank Miller, director Zack Snyder and lead Gerard Butler. Even for those who are not fans of Greek mythology, this one is a keeper. 90 percent accuracy proves good enough.

No Shoreditch of inspiration

June 11th, 2009

So I step into the lobby of my hotel ‘The Hoxton’ in Shoreditch, London, and straight away it feels like home as my eyes adjust to the vitamin C glow of this super cool life-size wire model of a lamborghini. Cool huh. Shortly after I found the best toilet ever at The Breakfast Club, just off Hoxton Square. The breakfast is worth a mention too - super tasty and great coffee.
